on artists
balls, I'm an artist...
that pivotal moment one realizes the only desk they can truly compete behind in life is that of their heart-
- that which is central and natural to them -
and your heart says, "do art."
- it doesn't really mean quit your job and "do art" -
-Ancient man painted cave walls but still hunted and gathered.
Rather, their "day job" was their shared human experience and muse which they sought then to express in their art. It was a framework of toil, confusion, success, disappointment, joy, camaraderie and brutal survivalism that has always been the bread and butter of every artist's palette.
such is society.
such is the wild.
nor is it a job within itself to be an artist; not the same as a dentist, or receptionist - you can't learn it in school, nor quit if you so desire.
For those truly blessed and cursed with the affliction of art in their heart -
- it's just a grain of existence, and going against it hurts.
- therefore, what it does mean is -
not to quit your job..
..but, that it is your job
- to be an artist in all that you do -
in all work and all play
- else miss the perks of being one -
Our life is not an easy one, oft outside the box
but, it's being outside the window, standing and looking in, where truly the sky is the limit.
Artists are inventors. Artists are explorers. Artists have the upper hand in industry. They create businesses. They create solutions. They innovate. They motivate. Their eye and mind are a team of keen observation with boldness to match. An artist sees a naked emperor, causes a stir by publicly expressing it, then makes him some awesome new clothes to wear. That is how to win at art.
Most often, artists bear stigma of "dreamer"
Yet, it's been said, we're only as good as our
dreams.
Thoreau wrote: "The world is but a canvas to our imagination."
conclusion: dream big, paint true, always shove it along.
